Obituary for Steven "Steve" J. Petersen

A Celebration of Life will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Great River Bowl & Partner’s Pub in Sartell for Steven “Steve” J. Petersen, age 63, who passed away Sunday at his home. Private entombment will be at Assumption Cemetery in St. Cloud.

Steve was born on December 7th, 1953 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Thomas and Dolores (Graham) Petersen. He attended St Cloud Technical High School. He married Vicky Sveine on May 19th, 1979 in St Cloud. They raised four kids in Sartell while Steve worked both as a shipping supervisor at Pan-O-Gold Bakery in St Cloud and operated Petersen Homes. He retired from Pan-O-Gold in 2005 and continued in the construction industry for another four years.

He enjoyed taking road trips on his Harley Davidson, watching Twins baseball, and especially loved spending time with his grandkids. In his final years as he battled the effects of multiple strokes and dementia, his dog, Harley, was always at his side.

He is survived by his wife, Vicky; children, Melissa (Erik) Trenz of Becker, Kristen Petersen of Sartell, Jamie O’Rourke (Brandon Hansen) of Royalton, and Derek (Jennifer) Petersen of St Cloud; grandchildren, Nicole, Madeline, Alayna, Tia, Natalie, Aiden, and Parker; his siblings, DeNae (James) Miller of St Cloud, Gary (Sherry) Petersen of St Cloud, Linda Henkemeyer of St Cloud, Michael (Chris) of Burlington, Washington; mother-in-law, Sharon Sveine of New Ulm; brother-in-law, Michael Sveine of San Antonio, Texas; sisters-in-law, Pamela Petersen of Longville and Sue (Monty) Groskreutz of Superior, Wisconsin; many nieces and nephews; and his cocker spaniel, Harley.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1974, his mother in 2008, his brother, Richard in 2005; and his father-in-law, Marcellus in 2000.
