Obituary for Richard J. Hammerstad, Sr.

A Funeral Service will be held at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Princeton, MN, on Friday, November 17, 2017, at 12 PM for Richard James Hammerstad, Sr., who passed away peacefully at home on November 12, 2017, surrounded by his family. A visitation will begin at 10 AM prior to the service.

Richard was born to Harry and Judith (Graves) Hammerstad in Minneapolis, MN, on December 30, 1962. Richard married Nancy in 1986, had three children, and later divorced. In 1996, he and Debbie Casey reconnected and were later engaged.

Richard enjoyed working on cars and race cars, anything he could make go fast. He enjoyed ice fishing and spending time with his family. He was a mechanic and worked at Princeton Auto for thirteen years and was held in very high regard there. He could fix anything and had a knack of making stuff work that nobody else could.

Richard is survived by his fiancée, Debbie Casey; children, Richard Jr. of Princeton, Anthony of Kimball, and John of Columbia Heights; step-children, Zach Jergenson of Princeton, Jessica Mattys of Columbia Heights; sisters, Sharon (Doug) Turner of Princeton, Tara Hammerstad of Buffalo; nephews, Derek Benson and Thomas Andrews, Jr.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
