Obituary for Mae E. Goodridge

Memorial Services will be at 2:00 PM on Sunday, July 15, 2018, at the Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Princeton, for Mae Elaine Goodridge, age 78. Services will be led by Celebrant Christine Williams. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home on Sunday.

Mae Elaine (Stephens) Goodridge passed away on July 9, 2018, surrounded by family and friends at her happy place on North Long Lake. After battling cancer for 15 years and vowing that it would not beat her, she won that fight as she died from other causes. While we will miss her terribly, we are relieved that her struggle is over and that in the end, it was a quick and painless transition, and she is now rejoined with her late soulmate and husband Geno Goodridge.

Born on May 7, 1940, in Traverse City, MI, Mae was the youngest of nine children who lovingly referred to her as “Pooky.” She was the proud mother of her daughter, Skeeter and son, Fred and absolutely loved, and was loved by, her seven grandchildren (Jamie, Jason, Jesse, Ethan, Michael, Ashley, and Daniel) as well as her three great-grandchildren.

Mae's infectious and gregarious personality gained her friends with every step she took. Mae valued her sobriety of 40+ years and embraced the many lifelong friendships she made at her local AA and ALANON support groups.

Mae and Geno owned a successful trucking company together, named Serenity Trucking. In 1997, Mae and Geno found their own peaceful serenity on North Long Lake where they were embraced by the community at Hidden Paradise Resort, which quickly became their happy place. Mae could often be found water skiing on the lake, a past time that she enjoyed right up until her 76th year of life.

Mae had both a physical and emotional strength that encompassed her life and relationships; she was a mentor, teacher, advocate, and friend to everyone who was fortunate enough to know her. She made everyone feel comfortable (or intentionally not...) with her humor and 'larger than life' personality.

Mae used her time on this earth to the fullest and challenged life on its own terms. She faced each cancer diagnosis with the phrase “Cancer picked the wrong Diva” and thus entered the ring with a determination and strength to literally fight for her life. She lived 1,000 years within the 78 calendar years we had with her because she attacked life, grabbed it by the collar, kissed it, and swung that club back for a hole in one. On roller blades and water skis, she sped through life vibrantly and held no regrets.
