Obituary for Lois Marie Miller-Berhow

Lois Marie Miller-Berhow, age 78 of Ramsey, passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at J.A. Wedum Residential Hospice in Brooklyn Park, MN.

Lois was born on May 19, 1939 to George D. and Hattie L. (Saxton) Claassen in Mora, MN. Lois was raised by Hattie and stepfather Nels A. Hallin. She graduated from Mora High School in 1957. Later, she attended the Academy of Stenographic Arts in San Francisco. She was a very hard worker and had a successful decades-long career as a court reporter. Lois married Reginald T. Miller in 1960 in California. They had two daughters, but later divorced.

Lois met and married Merwin J. Berhow in 1974 and they lived together in the Ramsey area. They loved to travel together (and with the grandkids!) and spent many hours volunteering at the Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge.

Lois loved flower gardening: she cultivated some impressive iris and lily gardens, where she was always on the lookout for a bunny or a hummingbird. Inside, FOX News was always on, and she would be more than happy to tell you what she thought about the news of the day (or anything else, really). She loved big holiday gatherings at her house with all the family, especially decking the halls at Christmastime. Her “orange snow” Jell-O salad was a holiday staple that no one could ever replicate. She loved spending time with her dog, Chanel, and later with her grandchildren, especially her baby great-grandson.

Lois is survived by her husband, Merwin Berhow; daughters, Jeri (Steven) Mehr of St. Augusta, MN and Ronda Miller of Minneapolis; siblings and their spouses, George Claassen, Mervin (Shirley) Claassen, Joyce Evensen, Patricia Skuza, Marilyn Claassen, Arlene Claassen, Marvin Guderian, Janice Hallin, and Evie Neuman. Lois is also survived by her grandchildren, Corey McCorkle and Kyla (Jake) Tonding; eight additional grandchildren; and her great-grandson, Desmond Tonding.

Lois was preceded in death by three children that did not survive infancy; her brothers and sisters, Lloyd Claassen, Muriel (Fred) Berggren, Violet Guderian, Jerry Hallin, Ervin Claassen, Betty (Raymond) Dahlberg, Melvin Hallin, Clarence (Connie) Hallin, Donald Hallin, and Ray Evensen.

Funeral services will be held at the Freshwaters Methodist Church, River Campus, Princeton, MN, on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at 11AM. There will be a visitation at the Freshwaters Methodist Church on Wednesday June 7th from 4-8 PM and again one hour before the service on Thursday. Burial will be in the Baldwin Cemetery following the service at 1PM.
