Obituary for June M. Roiger

A Celebration of Life will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at Freshwaters United Methodist Church, Princeton, for June M. Roiger, age 95, who passed away peacefully at the Elim Home, Princeton, on Sunday, April 29, 2018. Pastor Kevin Fox will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at Bellwood Cemetery, Zimmerman, following services.

June was born February 8, 1923, in Springfield, to Walter and Alma (Nelson) Potter. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Springfield High School in 1941. She helped on the farm during WWII. Later June moved to New Ulm and worked at Montgomery Wards. She was married to Robert Roiger of New Ulm on August 28, 1952, at the Methodist Church in Springfield. After they were married, they moved to Hopkins and later to St. Louis Park. They had three children, John, Jeannie, and Nancy. After their children were teenagers, she went to work for the Minnegasco Company. In 1978, she retired and their family moved to Zimmerman, MN. In 1984, her husband passed away shortly after retiring.

June walked strongly in her faith as a charter member of the Eastern Star for 73 years, first in Springfield and then in Hopkins. She has been active in her church wherever she has lived and was a member of Freshwaters UMC in Princeton. After retiring she enjoyed cooking, baking, playing cards, dancing, sewing, quilting, traveling, and helping others. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her.

June is survived by her children, Nancy Wilson of West Des Moines, IA, John Roiger of Zimmerman, and Jeannie (Darryl) Schumann of Webster, WI; grandchildren, Rob (Meagnon) Wilson, Christy (Jim) Prunty, Jake Didier, and Allison (Peter) Walsh; great-grandchildren, Luke Comstock, Tyler Comstock, Keir Wilson, and Miles Gabriel Walsh; and brother, Robert Potter of Springfield.
