Obituary for Fredrick C. Witte, Jr.

Fred Witte, Jr., age 64 of Long Siding, died unexpectedly on Saturday, July 15, 2017. Fredrick Carl Witte, Jr. was born on February 19, 1953 to Fredrick and Katie (Dreis) Witte in Lemmon, South Dakota. He was the sixth of 10 children. When Fred was a young boy, his family decided to move and begin farming in Long Siding, Minnesota. Tragedy struck when as they were driving to their new home, they were involved in a three car accident and Fred’s mother was killed. The Long Siding community rallied around Fred, Sr. and his children.

After graduating from Princeton High School in 1972, Fred enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was injured during his service to his country and was honorably discharged. Fred married Sandra on May 22, 1980 and they had two children, Alicia and Joseph. He loved to play cribbage, even teaching his kids to play as soon as they knew their numbers. He devoured Louis L’Amour books, enjoyed old western TV shows, and was an infomercial addict. Fred was always fishing, was known to hunt for agates, and tried his luck with pull tabs and scratch offs. He always shared the dumbest and most inappropriate jokes at inopportune times! Everyone knew Fred for some reason or another. His Harleys, 4-wheelers and snowmobiles were something he loved to share with his grandkids. He spoiled his grandkids rotten. Recently he was trying really hard to stay clean and sober and to get his anger under control. He wanted to be the grandpa that his grandkids deserved.

Fred will be deeply missed by his children, Alicia (Sam Kearney) Bah and Joseph Witte; his grandchildren, Izaac, Abigail and Zack Dembele, and Reagn Witte; his former wife, Sandra Walbridge; siblings, Pearl (Milton) Storm, Patti Smith, Paul Witte, Carol (Larry) Boros, Linda (Jeff) Minks, Carrie Witte, Gayla (J.R.) Wasson, Art (Mary) Witte; and sister-in-law, CarolAnn Witte.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ned Witte; and his nephew, Charles Paul Minks.

A gathering of Fred’s family and friends will be held on Friday, July 21 from 1-2PM with a Celebration of Fred’s Life at 2PM. Following the service we will be having “One Final Ride” around Spectacle Lake. Bring your Harley, motorcycle or even drive your car if you’d like. We will end our ride at Riverside Park to continue sharing memories with family and friends. Arrangements have been entrusted to Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home.
