Obituary for Francis Xavier Weidner

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 24, 2017 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Francis Xavier Weidner, age 93, who died on Monday. Rev. Thomas Knoblach will officiate. Friends and relatives may call one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday. Burial will be 3:00 p.m. at the Epiphany Church Cemetery in Coon Rapids. Arrangements entrusted to Williams Dingmann Funeral Home, St. Cloud.

Francis Xavier Weidner was born October, 12, 1923 in Regal to Leander and Olga (Teigh) Weidner. He graduated from Belgrade High School in 1942. From 1943-1946, Francis served in the United States Army in the European Theatre and was a part of the second transportation group into Berlin during WWII. In 1947, Francis was united in marriage with Shirley Norling at Ascension Catholic Church in Minneapolis. He worked as a salesman for Security Food Company until 1964 and then owned and operated a Coast to Coast hardware store in Baudette for six years. Prior to his retirement in 1989 Francis worked as a salesman for Williams Steel in Minneapolis. On April 13, 1996, Francis was united in marriage with Rose (Sauer) Mettenburg at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud. Francis was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Council #5548 and a life member of the East side VFW Post 4847. Francis loved golfing, fishing and playing a game of Bridge.

Francis is survived by his wife, Rose Mettenburg of St. Cloud; children, Carol Weidner of Coon Rapids, David (Kathy) Weidner of Ramsey, James (Susan) Weidner of Elk River, Mary Sawvell of Sedona, AZ., and Judith Weidner of Coon Rapids; ten grandchildren, three step grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and six step great grandchildren.

Francis is preceded in death by his parents; first wife Shirley on Sept. 28, 1993; son, Stephen Francis Weidner on January 4, 1995; siblings Joseph Weidner, Ralph Weidner and Dolores Snider and Agnes Roehtle.

Francis’s family would like to give a heartfelt thanks to all the staff on the 3rd floor memory care unit at St. Benedict’s Senior Community. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sharing and Caring Hands in Minneapolis.
