Obituary for David L. Cutler

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 4-7 PM on Monday, January 15, 2018, at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Princeton and the Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at 11 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church with visitation one hour prior for David Cutler who died on January 10, 2018.

David Lyle Cutler was born on November 10, 1942, the second of three sons, to Erving and Clara (Schlesner) Cutler in Princeton, Minnesota. Like his brothers, he was known to be adventurous and get into trouble. David even skipped a grade in school in the hopes of challenging him enough to keep him busy. In a bookkeeping class at Princeton High, he met Grace Bisso, the love of his life. He graduated from Princeton High School in 1959. He then joined the National Guard in 1960. On July 7, 1962, David and Grace were married, and began raising their family on the farm. David was a faithful husband and father, teaching his boys by example how to fix things and work hard.

A member of Immanuel Lutheran Church for 56 years, David served as deacon, was on the church council and enjoyed greeting new people and making them feel welcome. He had a positive outlook on life, was always upbeat and brought joy to many people. His doctors and nurses often commented on what an inspiration he was and he always left behind a smile.

David and Grace enjoyed one another, taking square dancing lessons, going out on Saturday nights, and playing cards, Farkle, and Cribbage with friends. They made many memories on family camping trips, vacations to Hawaii, visits with his brother in South Carolina and Illinois to care for their grandchildren. David never missed a family function or reunion.

David ran the family farm until 1968, later becoming a Plant Supervisor for Griswold Manufacturing, then as a John Deere Mechanic for Princeton Implement. David retired in 2008 from DAKA Corporation in Pine City where he was a Purchasing Agent and Plant Supervisor for 24 years. Though his health prevented him from doing so, he would have enjoyed being active and spending his retirement golfing. Whatever David did, he found joy in the moment and in the people around him.

David will be deeply missed by his wife of 55 years, Grace; his sons, James (Leah) of Elk River and Jeffrey (Nancy) of Freeport, IL; grandsons, Josh, Jeffrey, Jr., and Conner Cutler; great-granddaughter, Jocelyn Cutler; brother, Kendall (Jean) Cutler of South Carolina; sister-in-law, Janice Cutler of New Brighton; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Special thanks to cousin Kevin Cutler for the kidney which gave David 13 additional precious years with family and friends.

David was preceded in death by his parents; big brother, Arnold; “sisters/cousins,” Esther Kjormoe, Evelyn Fiebing, and Vivian Rice.
